welcome to the sppa / your pool professionals

Over the years, I’ve seen the same mistakes lead to the same insurance claims for pool pros. It doesn’t matter if you’re brand new or 25 years in the business, overflowed pools, stained plaster, heater corrosion, and drain mistakes will eventually catch you if you don’t have systems in place.

I’ll never forget one customer who overfilled a dark-bottom pool after dumping Tri-Chlor into it. That mistake alone cost him $6,500 out of pocket for a full re-plaster. I’ve also seen pros ruin brand-new heaters because they weren’t checking total alkalinity. The warranty tech shows up, takes one look, and says, “Sorry, this isn’t covered. Too much chemical damage.” And suddenly, it’s your problem.

One of the biggest claims I’ve seen is from overfilling. A simple hose left running can flood a backyard and seep into the house. I’ve personally walked into homes where water poured under the sliding glass door and ruined flooring and furniture. That’s a nightmare you don’t want.

My advice? Don’t fill pools for clients. If you must, leave your keys on the spigot and set a timer so you don’t drive away with the water still on. And always, always keep logs and photos of your visits. I can’t tell you how many times that documentation has helped pros defend themselves and keep a claim off their record.

Insurance is there to protect you, but your habits in the field are what keep you profitable and insurable. One or two preventable claims can be the difference between affordable coverage or getting dropped altogether.
